orchestration

Film, TV, Concert and Commercial Release

Orchestration is the process of adapting for orchestra music composed for another medium such as piano or electronica. There are two general kinds of adaptation: (a) transcription, which closely follows the original piece, and (b) arrangement, which can involve significant changes to aspects of the original piece. In commercially produced music, especially film music, independent orchestrators are often required as it can be difficult to meet tight deadlines when the same person is required both to compose and orchestrate.
