William Goodchild was commissioned by Auditório de Espinho Academia to create orchestrations for two performances and a recording featuring jazz singer Kandace Springs and the Orquestra Clássica de Espinho conducted by Diogo Costa.

Lady in Satin (1958, Columbia Records) stands as a seminal album in the history of American popular music. For the original recordings, Ray Ellis crafted arrangements and orchestrations to accompany and compliment Billie Holiday’s extraordinary vocals. Songs of anguish, heartache, and love constitute this beautiful album, forever immortalizing the essence of 'Lady Day' and her profound emotional depth.

Now, rising star Kandace Springs accompanied by Orquestra Clássica de Espinho, pays homage to this historic album with new orchestrations by William Goodchild, Nuno Peixoto de Pinho, Daniel Bernardes, Carlos Azevedo, Pedro Moriera, and Telmo Marques.

Kandace Springs is an American singer-songwriter and musician known for her soulful voice and blend of jazz, R&B and pop music. She gained attention with her debut EP ‘Kandace Springs’ in 2014 and has since released ‘Soul Eyes’ (2016) and ‘The Women Who Raised Me’ (2020), paying tribute to iconic female vocalists. With thanks to Alexandre Santos, Rui Rodriges and André Gomes at Auditório de Espinho Academia for commissioning this stunning project.
