Bill Evans and the Impressionists Kate Williams Trio with Bristol Ensemble conducted by William Goodchild perform Bill Evans and the Impressionists. A new project supported by Arts Council England and Bristol International Jazz and Blues Festival featuring celebrated UK jazz pianist Kate Williams and her Trio, Bristol Ensemble - Bristol's professional chamber orchestra - and composer, orchestrator, conductor William Goodchild. Two concerts: Colston Hall, Bristol and Milton Court Concert Hall, London.
The programme for both concerts features new orchestral arrangements by Kate Williams and William Goodchild of some of Bill Evans's finest compositions, alongside works by French Impressionist era composers Ravel, Debussy and Satie. Bill Evans is widely considered to be one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time, and perhaps the most influential of the post-World War II jazz pianists/ composers. This concert places his music next to the French composers that had a profound influence on his work, and utilises the orchestra to present his compositions and sound in a new way. Interplay Series is a series of concerts bringing together classical and jazz musicians to explore the relationship between these two styles of music.
